Tacit Knowledge and Scaling UP

“…We know more than we can tell” - this phrase not just speaks, but shouts to me. When I think about our efforts to scale up at a rate the demands require yet keep the integrity our reputation requires, I wonder…just how do we pass on and share our tacit knowledge as SIM PDers? As we look at our certification process, what things do we need to do to pass on and share this tacit knowledge effectively and efficiently? Your thoughts?

“We know more than we can tell.” Like you, this statement had a profound affect on my thinking as a teacher and as a professional developer. Being able to convey the”more than we can tell” is the key to learners understanding and becoming “expert thinkers.”

I believe that one way to convey the “untellable” information is by knowing how and using the arsenal of strategies and enhancements at our disposal in classrooms and when teaching other teachers. It is all about teaching. Good teaching is good teaching whether the learner is a child or an adult.

Therefore, as a teacher, I must have complex communitcating skills. Again, the use of SIM strategies and enhancements is a logical step in improving communication skills for teachers.
